Architect: Van Dongen – Koschuch Architects and Planners
Product: ceramic baguettes, glazed in green
Royal Tichelaar is approached by Van Dongen Koschuch Architects and Planners for the ceramic exterior cladding for the expansion of theatre Musis Sacrum in Arnhem.
The inspiration for the design comes from the atmosphere and character of the Musis Sacrum Institute, the possibilities and characteristics of the leafy Musis Park, and the identity of the Arnhem Philharmonic Orchestra and its concert hall. The extension is designed as an inviting and open-sided pavilion in the park, with the historic building respectfully complemented in a beautiful landscape. Inside, the concert hall has a large glass façade behind the stage that opens the hall to the Musispark and acts as a green backdrop for performances. This façade can be opened to the Musispark, so summer evening concerts can be held in the open air. Existing and new are bound by a common plinth, allowing the Musis Sacrum to obtain a contemporary monumentality that relates to such a musical programme.
