The architect was on the lookout for new materials for the interior of this private house in Amersfoort. Parts of the ceiling were clad with handmade felt by Claudy Jongstra, and he had the chimney-piece covered entirely in Old Holland tiles, sometimes called ‘witjes’ (whities), which Koninklijke Tichelaar has been making since 1690. The walls, floor, and ceiling were all decorated in gold effect glazed tiles by Tichelaar, to match manufactured sanitaryware.
