The interior architect Evelyne Merkx set up her own studio in 1985. In 1990 she started collaborating with the architect Patrice Girod, which in 1996 resulted in the establishment of a joint firm for architecture and interior architecture.
Since 1985 she has carried out a great many projects: new buildings, conversions, interior design, product development, styling, exhibitions and renovation. Merkx + Girod both design interiors for private conversions and formulate strategies for large and complex interiors in buildings for public use where the logistical and functional requirements are integrated into the overall spatial concept. The firm works for such varied clients as Hema, the Bijenkorf, the Concertgebouw (renovation), the State Building Department (extension of the Council of State building and the redesign of the Trêves Hall and States Hall), Rijksmuseum, ABN AMRO, Tilburg Textile Museum, Van Gogh Museum, Ernst & Young and private individuals.
Merkx + Girod was wound up in late 2012. Evelyne Merkx continued with her own studio under the name Merk X, which cooperates with a variety of partners.
